The Potlatch ceremony was a harvest ritual practiced by many early cultures in North America. It’s main purpose was in sharing wealth and supplies with the community and celebrating the harvest. The Potlatch included the ritualistic destruction of old pottery. Archaeologists have learned a great deal about early inhabitants of what is now the United States from the sherd piles left from these ceremonies.
